Book reading and chat with author Michael Schauch about his book Anatta: Heart of Wisdom.
Michael Schauch is coming to Trident Booksellers & Café on Wednesday 26 August for a reading and a chat about his book, Anatta: Heart of Wisdom. It's a straightforward afternoon: he'll read from the book and then stick around to talk about it with anyone who wants to join in.
If you're not familiar with the title, Anatta is the Pali word for non-self, one of the core ideas in Buddhist teaching. The book works its way through that concept, and having the author there to read it aloud and then unpack it in person is a different thing from just picking it up on a shelf. It's the kind of session that works best if you've got a few questions you've been chewing on, or if you just want to hear the author's own voice behind the text.
Trident is a good spot for this sort of thing—a bookstore and café in the heart of Halifax, so you can grab a coffee and settle in. The reading comes first, and the chat follows, which means you get to hear the work before you start talking about it. If you've been following Schauch's writing or if Anatta is your first introduction to his work, it's a chance to hear him walk through the book himself.
