The 8th Annual Halifax Salsa & Bachata Festival returns to downtown Halifax from August 13 to 16, 2026. It's the eighth time the festival has come to the city, and it's spread across three nights rather than just one. The main hub is Haliente Dance Studio, but the celebration reaches beyond that, with events also taking place at the Halifax Waterfront and along Bedford Row.
It's billed as Atlantic Canada's premier Afro-Latin cultural celebration, and the programme reflects that. Over the course of the three nights, the festival brings together dance, music, art, food and connection, welcoming everyone from first-time dancers to seasoned performers. The schedule mixes waterfront socials, live concerts, street markets, cultural showcases, workshops and a late-night block party. There's plenty to choose from if you're just looking to watch, and plenty to get involved with if you'd rather be on the floor.
The festival describes itself as rooted in movement, music and community, and that comes through in how it's laid out. The waterfront socials and live concerts bring the music out into the open, the street markets add a bit of a fair atmosphere, and the workshops give you a chance to actually learn the steps. The cultural showcases put the dance and music front and centre, and the late-night block party keeps things going well into the evening. Between the studio, the waterfront and the street, it's a good deal of ground to cover across the few days.
