A Halloween workshop where participants create their own shadow puppet and cast a spooky story on an illuminated screen.
The Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre is running a Witches, Wizards & Ghosts Shadow Puppet Workshop in Glasgow on Saturday 31 October, right on Halloween. It's part of their wider run of Halloween family activities, so if you've got kids and are looking for something to do that day, this is a good shout.
The workshop is built around two things: making and performing. You start by learning how to make your own shadow puppet, and once you've got your character sorted, you cast its shadow onto an illuminated screen. From there, you make up a spooky story to go with it, so you're not just walking away with a puppet you'll probably lose in a toy box within a week — you're actually using it to tell something.
It's a hands-on session, and since it's a workshop, you'll be guided through the making part before you move on to the storytelling. The whole thing is set up for families, so it's as much about the process as it is about the end result. If you've never made a puppet before, that's fine; the point is to learn it there and then.
