Free premiere of a new live work by Glasgow composer Giles Lamb, played in quadraphonic sound with multi-screen projection.
Giles Lamb is premiering a new live work at House of Toad on Friday 4 December. The piece is called Ùrlar, which is Gaelic for the floor; in pibroch, that's the ground—the theme the music leaves and keeps returning to. It's a Glasgow composer bringing a new work to a Glasgow room, and it's played live, so no two nights end up the same.
It's not just a seated concert. The sound is quadraphonic, meaning it wraps around you rather than coming from a single stage, and it's paired with multi-screen projection. The visuals are built from 3D scans and black-and-white photographs of the River Kelvin gorge and the canal, so the imagery comes from the city's own landscape. Lamb describes the whole thing as slow, deep and meditative—the kind of thing you settle into rather than watch from a distance.
