A world-class acoustic music collaboration bringing together premier custodians of Scottish, Irish and North American roots music, led by Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas.
Transatlantic Sessions are back at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 31 January, starting at 7:30pm. It's a long-running fixture of the Celtic Connections festival, and the Glasgow show kicks off the subsequent tour that takes the whole thing across the UK and Ireland.
The house band is led by fiddle player Aly Bain and dobro master Jerry Douglas, with John Doyle, Michael McGoldrick, Tatiana Hargreaves, Allison de Groot, John McCusker, Donald Shaw, James Mackintosh and Daniel Kimbro filling out the rest. Guest vocalists Allison Russell, Jeff Hanna, Kathleen MacInnes and Declan O'Rourke join in on the singing. It's a big ensemble, and the whole thing is built around the house band backing a rotating set of singers.
Transatlantic Sessions has been running for 21 years, and the name tells you exactly what it is: a meeting of Scottish, Irish and North American acoustic roots music. The house band is guided by Bain and Douglas, and they describe the show as a collaboration of world-class musicians weaving Celtic and Americana across the stages of the tour. It's a perennial highlight of Celtic Connections, and the Glasgow date is where the tour begins.
