AR Rahman x Rushil Ranjan with Abi Sampa & Celtic Connections Orchestra

AR Rahman and Rushil Ranjan are playing the Glasgow International Arena on Saturday 16 January 2027, as part of the Celtic Connections festival. They're joined by singer Abi Sampa and the Celtic Connections Orchestra and Chorus, with students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland conducted by Melvin Tay, soloists Sarthak Kalyani and Janan Sathiendran, and dancer Aakash Odedra.

The night centres on Rangreza (रंगरेज़ा), a piece co-composed by Rahman and Ranjan and written for Sampa, orchestra and chorus. The title means 'colourist' — someone who brings unexpected tones together — and in Sufi tradition a vision of the Divine as the ultimate artist. It premiered at the Royal Albert Hall and was co-commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Toronto's TO Live and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, with lead support for its world premiere from the Bagri Foundation. The evening also features some of Rahman's most known works, from Roja and Guru to 127 Hours and Rockstar.

Rahman, Ranjan and Sampa are all Royal Albert Hall Associate Artists, and the bill brings them together to celebrate the shared spirit of Eastern and Western classical traditions. The scale of it is worth noting: alongside the orchestra and chorus, there are students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, two soloists and a dancer. It's one night only, and it sits within the wider Celtic Connections programme.

The concert starts at 7:30pm at the Glasgow International Arena, 1000 London Road, Glasgow G40 3HG. Tickets are £96.95, £70.83, £62.50, £58.33 and £45.83, all including the booking fee.
