An autumnal evening of pottery painting with The Craft Pottery at Kelvin Hall, where attendees paint a ceramic item while the Library shares seasonal archive films about craft.
The Craft Pottery are taking over the National Library of Scotland at Kelvin Hall on Wednesday 21 October for an evening of pottery painting. It's a partnership between the Library and The Craft Pottery, and the whole thing runs from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, with doors opening at 5:15pm.
While you paint, the Library will be playing a selection of seasonal archive films and footage about pottery making and craft, curated to give you something to work from. It's not just a painting session, then; you've got the archive running in the background to keep you inspired. You'll need to bring your own non-alcoholic refreshments and snacks to tide you over the two hours. When you're finished, The Craft Pottery takes your piece away for firing and lets you know when it's ready to collect from the archive.
The £15 fee covers your paint, glaze, firing costs, and one ceramic item to start with—something like a small mug, bowl or plate. It's for adults only, 18+.

If you've never been, it's worth remembering what's actually inside the building. Kelvin Hall houses the National Library of Scotland's moving image and sound archive, where you can watch curated content on touchscreens, browse thousands of digitised films on public computers, and use viewing rooms set up for both analogue and digital formats. There's also a discovery space that traces Scottish cinema history with filming equipment, posters and objects—including a replica Oscar—alongside craft and book areas for families. The café on site is run by Glasgow Life. The session is at the National Library of Scotland at Kelvin Hall, 1445 Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8AW, on Wednesday 21 October, 5:30pm to 7:30pm, for £15.
