A musical about the power of home, family and love, set to the songs of The Proclaimers, following the journey of two friends returning from Afghanistan.
Sunshine on Leith runs at The Pavilion Theatre from Tuesday 2 March to Saturday 6 March 2027. It's an amateur production by Pantheon, presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe), and comes on the back of the company's recent staging of We Will Rock You.
The show is a musical set to the songs of The Proclaimers, and the big ones are all in there: 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)', 'Letter from America' and, of course, 'Sunshine on Leith'. The story follows the highs and lows of Ally and his friend Davy, who are trying to find some kind of normality after returning from a tour in Afghanistan. Along the way they start to question what home really means to them, and the whole thing eventually asks the audience: would you walk 500 miles for love?
Pantheon describes it as a jubilant, heartfelt musical about the power of home, the hearth, family and love. If you know the songs, you've got a good idea of the mood it's aiming for.

As for the venue, The Pavilion Theatre is one of Glasgow's oldest variety theatres, right in the city centre at 121 Renfield Street. It first opened in 1904 as a music hall and still keeps its Edwardian-style façade, a grand entrance foyer with a marble staircase and stained-glass windows, and an auditorium with ornate plasterwork and a proscenium-arch stage. It seats around 1,450 and has hosted Laurel and Hardy, Judy Garland and Morecambe and Wise over the years. The production runs from 2 March to 6 March, so you've got five nights to choose from.
