A live symphonic concert screening of the original 1977 Star Wars film, with a full orchestra playing John Williams' score, on the film's 50th anniversary.
Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert comes to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 27 March 2027, as part of a UK tour marking the 50th anniversary of the original film. The setup is straightforward: a full screening of the 1977 movie paired with a live orchestra performing John Williams' score right there in the room. If you've seen it a dozen times, it's a different experience hearing the music played live rather than coming through the speakers.
That score is the whole point of the night. John Williams won the Oscar for Best Original Score for this one, and he went on to score all nine films in the saga, picking up nominations for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. The Glasgow date is one stop on a tour taking the show across the UK, so it's not the only chance to catch it, but it is the one that brings it to the city.

As for the film itself, A New Hope is the one that started it all. Set 19 years after the rise of the Empire, it follows Luke Skywalker, guided by Obi-Wan Kenobi, as he joins the Rebel Alliance to rescue Princess Leia from Darth Vader. It's the story most people know by heart, and the music is woven right into it. The Glasgow show is on Sunday 27 March 2027 at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
