The Springfield Cambridge Festival Chorus and Orchestra return to the Glasgow music calendar for their annual Christmas concert, raising funds for CHAS, Children's Hospices Across Scotland.
The Springfield Cambridge Festival Chorus & Orchestra return to The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday 22 December, their Christmas concert back in the city for another year. It's a long-running tradition: they've played the hall each December for more than two decades, and this one follows the same pattern. The musical director is Alan Craig MBE, and the evening is built around the chorus and orchestra performing together.
There's a clear purpose behind the music. The concert raises money for CHAS, Children's Hospices Across Scotland, a cause the group has supported through these annual shows for years. It's not just a one-off; the fundraising has a track record. In 2022, the concert raised £33,002, and in 2020, when the pandemic forced the performance into a virtual format, it brought in £20,275.57. The money goes to the hospice, so the night does more than just fill the hall.
Beyond the main concert, there's a junior side to the operation. The choir runs a Junior Chorus for boys and girls aged 7 to 14, led by Catherine Taylor. It's open and accessible: there's a taster session, and no audition or fee is required to get involved, so it's a way for younger singers to get their start without a barrier in the way.
