A specialist tour of the Ship Model store at the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, examining Clyde shipbuilding in miniature with a focus on liners, paddle steamers and battleships.
Glasgow Museums Resource Centre is opening up its ship model store for a specialist tour on Tuesday 8 December, from 2:30pm. It's a chance to see the Clyde's shipbuilding history in miniature, with the tour taking you inside the store to look closely at liners, paddle steamers and battleships. You'll also get an explanation of how these models were made and what they were used for, so it's as much about the craft as the ships themselves.
One of the pieces you'll come across is a sectioned model of RMS Aquitania, which lets you see inside the ship's structure rather than just the hull. The Resource Centre itself has a Silver Award from Visit Scotland's Green Tourism scheme, so it's a bit more than just a warehouse for the collection.
