A festive tribute show to The Carpenters with Kerry Burley and a six-piece band at Oran Mor, featuring vintage 70s costumes and stories behind the music.
Sing a Song: A Tribute to The Carpenters comes to Oran Mor on Tuesday 22 December, just a few days before Christmas. It's a tribute to Karen and Richard Carpenter, with singer Kerry Burley leading a six-piece band through the songs they're best known for.
The set pulls from the hits that made them a household name: 'We've Only Just Begun', '(They Long To Be) Close To You' and 'Top Of The World' are all on the list. Burley takes the lead on vocals, backed by a five-piece band, and the show rounds out with festive classics from the Christmas Portrait album, so the whole thing leans into the season. The band plays in vintage 70s costumes, and the stories behind the music are woven in between the songs, rather than just letting the records speak for themselves.
It's a full band on stage, not just a singer and a backing track, so the sound is built around a proper ensemble. The 70s dress is part of the night, and the stories they tell along the way give the set a bit of a narrative, rather than just one song after another. If you've spent your life humming along to the Carpenters, this is a chance to hear them played live in a room.

Tickets are £23, and the show starts at 19:00 at Oran Mor, at the top of Byres Road (G12 8QX) in the West End. It's a Tuesday night, so it's one of those mid-week gigs that works well if you're looking for something to do closer to the holiday.
