The Royal Scottish National Orchestra performs Verdi's Requiem at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, conducted by Patrick Hahn with the RSNO Chorus and Edinburgh Festival Chorus.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra bring Verdi's Requiem to The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 7 November, part of a two-night run that starts the previous evening at Edinburgh's Usher Hall. It's a big production: the full orchestra on stage with two Scottish choirs behind them, the RSNO Chorus directed by Stephen Doughty and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus under James Grossmith.
Patrick Hahn conducts, with four soloists on the line-up: soprano Jennifer Davis, mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun, tenor Mario Lerchenberger and bass Edwin Crossley-Mercer. The RSNO describes the Requiem as more than a vision of the Day of Judgement, but a 'passionate journey into the human heart', and with the full orchestra and two choirs, it's a piece that needs that kind of scale to work. There's also BSL interpretation throughout, given by Paul Whittaker, a profoundly deaf musician who founded the charity Music and the Deaf in 1988 and was awarded an OBE in 2007.
If you're arriving early, there's a pre-concert talk in the Clyde Foyer, free for ticket holders, so you can get a bit of context before the music starts. The whole evening runs about an hour and 50 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. The performance is part of the RSNO's 2026:27 Classical Concert Season, a 16-concert programme led by Music Director Thomas Søndergård and Principal Guest Conductor Patrick Hahn, supported by the Jennie S. Gordon Memorial Foundation and recommended by Classic FM.
