A journey through the life of Woody Guthrie as part of Celtic Connections 2027, featuring Reg Meuross with supporting acts Christina Alden and Alex Patterson.
Reg Meuross brings Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie Story to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 17 January 2027, as part of Celtic Connections. It's a journey through the life, music and activism of Woody Guthrie, one of folk music's most influential voices, and it's a project Meuross has built around Guthrie's legacy.
The show combines original songs, storytelling and rich acoustic instrumentation to trace Guthrie's life with warmth, insight and social conscience. It was commissioned and co-produced by Pete Townshend, and it explores themes of justice, resilience and equality. The evening is framed by East Anglian multi-instrumentalists Christina Alden and Alex Patterson, who open with their own finely crafted songs and instrumental interplay, a nod to the storytelling tradition that folk music has always been about.
It's a double bill, so you get two sets in one night: Alden and Patterson first, then Meuross with Fire & Dust. The whole thing takes place in the Strathclyde Suite at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, 2 Sauchiehall Street, G2 3NY. Under-16s need to be accompanied by an adult.
