A nostalgic horror boardgame night playing the 1991 VHS game Atmosfear at the retro gaming venue R-CADE.
R-CADE is hosting an Atmosfear VHS boardgame night on Friday 23 October, with two games running that evening starting at 7:15pm and 8:30pm. If you've never come across it, Atmosfear is a VHS board game from 1991 where you play against the Gatekeeper, a character on the tape who talks to you and messes with your game in real time. The goal is to collect all your keys and discover your opponents' biggest fears before the timer runs out, and the night is played just as it was meant to be: as a nostalgic horror session.
It's a proper throwback to the era of the VCR, and the whole thing is run by R-CADE, a retro gaming venue on the edge of Glasgow's East End, near Glasgow Green. The place is built around arcade cabinets running home consoles from the last five decades, from Atari and Binatone through to Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation and Xbox, and it also has a cafe with over 300 board games you can play all day. They run themed gaming sessions for all ages as well as over-18s, and you'll need a pre-booked arcade pass to get in. One useful thing to know is that you can bring your own alcohol, so you can sort your own drinks for the night.
