Professor Brian Cox brings his live show Emergence to the OVO Hydro, blending cosmology, biology, philosophy and history.
Professor Brian Cox brings his live show Emergence to the OVO Hydro on Sunday 18 October, his first Glasgow date since taking his previous show, Horizons, to nearly half a million people worldwide. He's described Emergence as the most ambitious live show he's ever written, and it's a big step up in scale from what he's done before.
Cox has spent the last 15 years fronting landmark science programmes for BBC radio and television, from the Peabody Award-winning Wonders of the Solar System to the worldwide hit The Planets, and has written several popular science books along the way. Emergence was built in collaboration with scientists, musicians, filmmakers and graphic artists, and it pulls together cosmology, biology, philosophy and history, all projected onto the largest and most advanced LED screens available. The Guardian called it a "jaw-dropping reminder that human life is both irrelevant and hugely precious."
It's a show that works as much for the curious as it does for the science-obsessed, and it's open to a broad age range: the Glasgow date is for audiences aged 12 and over, with under-16s needing to be accompanied by an adult. If you've followed his BBC series or read his books, this is the live version of that same ground, expanded for a big stage.
