Gig by Morrissey, former lead singer of The Smiths, at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
Morrissey plays the OVO Hydro on Wednesday 16 December, with doors opening at 6:30pm. It's a solo bill, so he's the only name on the poster.
For those who know him as a solo artist, the context goes back further: he was the lead singer of The Smiths, arguably the most important indie band in Britain during the 1980s. His theatrical crooning and literate, poetic lyrics, filled with romantic angst, social alienation and cutting wit, connected with a legion of similarly sensitive, disaffected youth. The Smiths broke up in 1987, and after that he became more popular in the US than in his own country. He launched a comeback in 2004 with the album You Are the Quarry.
