Thirteenth annual charity 5k run and walk in Queen's Park raising money for The Moira Fund, with a warm-up at 9:30am and start at 10am.
Moira's Run returns to Queen's Park on Sunday 18 October, the thirteenth annual charity 5k run and walk. It's held in memory of Moira Jones, who was murdered in May 2008. Originally from Staffordshire, she'd lived in Glasgow for five years at the time of her death, and the run has become a regular fixture on the South Side calendar.
The route around the park is mixed, with enough of a challenge for experienced runners but pitched at first-timers too. It's a broad church of a field: you'll find fancy-dressers and the local community turning out alongside the serious runners, and everyone who finishes gets a medal. If you can't make it to the park on the day, you can take part virtually at a venue of your own choice.
All proceeds go to The Moira Fund, which was set up in Moira's name. Since then, it's supported more than a thousand families across the UK affected by homicide, with grants covering costs like funeral expenses and clothes for attending court. It's a practical kind of support for families dealing with a sudden and violent loss.
