A traditional procession of hundreds of Gaelic choral singers marching from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to Buchanan Street as part of the Royal National Mòd.
The Massed Choirs take to the streets of Glasgow on Saturday 17 October, the grand finale of the Royal National Mòd. The procession starts at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and makes its way down Sauchiehall Street to the steps at the top of Buchanan Street, with the Kilbarchan Pipe Band leading the way. It's a Royal National Mòd tradition that brings hundreds of Gaelic choral singers together to close out the festival.
The Mòd itself is the world's largest celebration of Scottish Gaelic language, culture and music, and this 134th edition has been running across the city from 9 to 17 October. It's staged by An Comunn Gà idhealach, and this year's programme is a big one: around 10,000 people are expected to attend, with more than 200 competitions. There's solo singing, choirs, bands, instruments and art, including the flagship Gold Medal and Traditional Gold Medal, a Battle of the Bands and a drama final. The Massed Choirs is the moment all those choral voices come together in one place.
This is the Mòd's return to Glasgow, which last hosted the festival in 2019 in Baile Mòr nan Gà idheal. The whole week is supported by Glasgow Life, Bòrd na Gà idhlig, the Scottish Government, EventScotland, Caledonian MacBrayne, BBC ALBA, Creative Scotland and Qualifications Scotland. Once the procession finishes, the festival closes with the Gael Force 10 cèilidh at the Barrowland Ballroom.
