An evening tracing a musical lineage from the cafés of Paris to the songs of George Harrison, featuring dazzling acoustic guitar interplay and the swing of the Hot Club de France style.
Martin Taylor and Robin Nolan play the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Thursday 28 January 2027, starting at 8:00pm. The evening is billed as While My Guitar Gently Swings, and the two guitarists share the stage with support.
It's a conversation between two players who both come from the gypsy jazz tradition, the style built around Django Reinhardt and his Hot Club de France. That's the thread they're pulling on throughout the night: the set traces a line from the cafés of Paris to the songs of George Harrison, with fresh interpretations of Beatles songs mixed in. You'll hear acoustic guitar interplay and improvisation played in that Hot Club swing, and the whole thing is built around the connection between the two of them on stage.
The venue is the Strathclyde Suite inside the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, one of the city's biggest and most established spaces. The main auditorium seats up to 2,475 and is home to the RSNO, Scotland's national orchestra; over the years it's hosted names like BB King, Johnny Cash, Van Morrison, David Byrne and Debbie Harry. This particular night is in the Strathclyde Suite, so it's a bit more contained than the main hall.
