A hands-on magic workshop with Magic Moria where you learn and make magic tricks to perform at home.
Magic Moria is running a magic workshop at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre on Friday 16 October, and it's a hands-on one. The whole point is that you don't just watch: you learn and make your own magic tricks, and then you're shown how to perform them. You leave with something in your hand to take home and show off to your friends, so it's more of a craft session than a lecture.
Behind the name is Moira Fletcher, and magic runs deep in her family. Both her father and mother were performers and organisers of events, and her daughter Mandy is carrying the tradition on. Her father, Duncan Fletcher, served as President of the British Ring — the International Brotherhood of Magicians — from September 1975 to September 1976, and Moira is now the current president. It's a family business that's spanned generations, and that's the kind of experience she's bringing to the table.

The workshop is held at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre in Glasgow's West End, at 8-10 Balcarres Avenue, G12 0QF. It's a proper hub for the craft: the centre houses an 80-seat theatre, a museum, and an education unit, alongside a mask and puppet library and archive, a marionette carving workshop, and a film and FX unit. They run a regular family Saturday Show programme from September through June, so this workshop fits right into the kind of thing they do. The session costs £8.95.
