Recital of the world-renowned pianist Lang Lang, featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Albéniz, Granados and Liszt.
Lang Lang plays the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday 7 December 2027, presented by Kilimanjaro Live. It's a solo recital, so it's just him and the piano for the whole evening.
The programme runs through a fair bit of ground. He opens with Mozart's Rondo in D major, K. 485, then moves into Beethoven with two sonatas: the Pathétique (No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13) and the later Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major, Op. 110. From there it shifts to Spain, with Albéniz's Suite española, Op. 47 (numbers 1 through 8) and Granados' Goyescas, Op. 11 No. 4, the one known as Quejas, o la maja y el ruiseñor. He closes with Liszt: Consolation No. 2 in E Major and Venezia e Napoli, III. Tarantella.
If you're not familiar with him, Lang Lang is one of the most well-known classical pianists working today. He started playing at three, gave his first public recital before five, and entered Beijing's Central Music Conservatory at nine. He won First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians at 13, then studied with Gary Graffman at the Curtis Institute of Music. His big break came at 17, when he stood in for André Watts at the Gala of the Century and played Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach. Since then he's played for billions at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony, the 2020 Dubai EXPO Opening Ceremony and the 2024 reopening of Notre Dame in Paris, and has shared stages with Metallica, Pharrell Williams, Herbie Hancock, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Rose of BLACKPINK, J Balvin and Jay Chou. He founded the Lang Lang International Music Foundation in 2008, was named a UN Messenger of Peace in 2013 and is a star of Channel 4's The Piano.
