Québécois ensemble La Déferlance brings traditional music and contemporary creativity to Celtic Connections 2027, with Scottish musicians Amy Henderson and Ewan MacPherson opening.
La Déferlance play the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday 20 January 2027, as part of Celtic Connections. They're a Québécois ensemble touring their album Âmes des bois, and the night opens with Scottish musicians Amy Henderson and Ewan MacPherson.
If you're not familiar with them, La Déferlance take the driving dance tunes and energy of Québec's folk heritage and pull in jazz and classical influences. The line-up is fiddle, accordion, piano, bass and foot percussion, so there's a fair bit of rhythmic foot-tapping going on alongside the melodies. They've built a reputation for live shows that hold onto tradition while bringing in new ideas, and Âmes des bois is the record they're touring around this run.
Having Henderson and MacPherson open the evening adds a local connection to the bill, and together the two acts make for a transatlantic night of roots music. It's one of the many concerts that make up Celtic Connections 2027, so it's part of a wider month of music across the city.
