Dublin alt-rapper KhakiKid brings his jazz-infused hip-hop sound to King Tut's Wah Wah Hut.
Khakikid plays King Tut's Wah Wah Hut on Saturday 24 October, with doors opening at 19:30. He's a Dublin alt-rapper who grew up as the middle child of a large working-class family in Crumlin, sharing a room with three siblings and teaching himself to produce from his bedroom. He describes himself as an Irish-Libyan outsider, and his music sits at the crossroads of those worlds: UK grime via Channel U, US rap icons like 50 Cent and Eminem, and the boundary-pushing sound of the Tumblr and SoundCloud era, with XXXTENTACION, Tyler, the Creator and Mac Miller as touchstones. He briefly left music for basketball, earning a scholarship opportunity in Los Angeles, before returning to rap.
His 2021 debut single 'Late' introduced a jazz-infused hip-hop style, and later projects like san bebƩ, Moanbag and Girl Bites Dog pushed further into genre fusion, blending alt-rap, rock, house and electronica. Embracing his natural Irish accent, influenced by groups like Kneecap, added authenticity and humour to his work. The set will pull from that mix, with the jazz-inflected hip-hop of his early work sitting alongside the more eclectic, cross-genre sound of his later releases.
