An untutored, relaxed life drawing session held on Monday evenings at McChuills Bar, open to all regardless of experience.
Illuminated Figures is back at McChuills Bar on Monday 19 October, one of the regular life drawing sessions that run every Monday evening on the High Street. It's run by Joanna and open to everyone regardless of experience, so if you've never picked up a charcoal stick in your life, you'll fit in just as well as someone who draws every week.
The session follows a steady rhythm: it starts with short poses to warm up your hand and get you into the flow, then settles into gradually longer ones as the night goes on. The room is filled with good tunes, and because it's untutored, you can just draw at your own pace without anyone looking over your shoulder. Materials are provided, though you're more than welcome to bring your own if you have a particular set of pencils or a sketchbook you prefer.
There's a clear commitment to the model at the heart of the project: paying models properly and fairly, and putting their comfort, security and safety above all else. It's a good thing to keep in mind if you're deciding whether to come along.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Glasgow and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

A couple of practical bits before you book: the sessions are strictly 18+ as they take place in a bar, and no phones are permitted while drawing, so it's a proper break from the screen for a few hours. You can follow the sessions on Instagram @illuminatedfigures to see more of what they do.
The session runs from 18:30 to 21:30, though the drawing itself is two hours with a 15-minute break. It's £7 plus booking fee, and you'll find McChuills Bar at 80 High Street in Glasgow City Centre, G1 1NL.
