Genesis Owusu brings his genre-defying mix of hip-hop and punk rock to Glasgow at Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox.
Genesis Owusu plays Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox on Thursday 3 December, with doors opening at 19:00. The show is presented by DF Concerts, and it's a step up in scale from where it was originally slated: it was upgraded from King Tut's Wah Wah Hall to this larger room.
Owusu is a multi-ARIA award winner who describes his sound as a genre-defying mix of hip-hop and punk rock. It's a fair way of putting it, as he tends to pull from a few different places at once rather than sticking to one lane. If you've followed him for a while, you'll know he's not one for playing it safe with a setlist, and this Glasgow date is no exception.
The venue itself is part of the city's older fabric. Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox is the bar and kitchen of St Luke's, a church building that dates back to 1836, making it the third oldest church building in Glasgow. It's a place that needs ongoing restoration to keep its historic character, and because of that, a restoration levy is added to the ticket price. So, when you buy your ticket, a bit of it goes toward keeping the building going.
