Astro Bloc headline the Celtic Connections 2027 festival at Saint Luke's, joined by Xara for a night of Atlantic folk music.
Astro Bloc headline Saint Luke's on Friday 22 January, part of Celtic Connections 2027. They're a quartet — Eryn Rae, Paul Jennings, Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín and Gillie Ó Flaherty — who blend Scottish and Irish influences with contemporary sounds, and they've built a reputation for high-energy live shows. The set is built around soaring fiddle melodies, driving percussion and arrangements that push well beyond what you'd expect from folk, so it's a good fit for a night that's all about the energy of the room.
Opening for them is Xara, who brings the spirit of Atlantic folk music by blending the traditions of Asturias, Galicia, Ireland and Scotland into a fresh, contemporary sound. Between the two, the bill covers a fair stretch of the Atlantic fringe, from the north west of Spain up through the islands and the highlands.
Saint Luke's is on Bain Street in the East End, and it's the third oldest church building in Glasgow, dating back to 1836. It's a standing-only show, so you'll be on your feet for the night. A restoration levy is added to the ticket price to fund the building's ongoing maintenance and preservation, so part of what you pay goes back into keeping the place going.
