A bumper night of queer cabaret featuring burlesque, magic, contortion and live vocals at The Riding Room, hosted by Paul Puppet.
The Riding Room has its bumper cabaret show on Friday 3 October, hosted by Paul Puppet. It's a free night that brings together burlesque, magic, contortion and live vocals, with the whole thing running on the Paul Puppet stable's regular cabaret format.
The line-up for the night is a long one: Debay De Lux, Iain MacDonald, Professor Cogsworth, Minnie Knot, Vendetta Vain, Verity Luxure and Alana Hollywood. Between them they cover the different acts the night is built on — the burlesque, the magic, the contortion and the singing — so it's a fair bit of variety to get through in one sitting.
If you're not familiar with the venue, The Riding Room (also known as 'The Joint on the Corner') is a queer cabaret bar in Glasgow City Centre at 58 Virginia Street, run by the Paul Puppet stable and billed as Scotland's favourite queer cabaret bar. It's got on-stage activity seven nights a week, mixing live sets, burlesque, side-show and magic in a tip of a hat to old-fashioned socialising. The drinks menu leans on unusual, indulgent cocktails served in everything from tin cans and jam jars to silver kettles, alongside an 'absinthe-minded' hard liquor cabinet. The weekend is built around the Paul Puppet stable's cabaret nights, which blend burlesque, contortion, magic and live vocals, and the venue also runs a Monday-night drag residency, 'Lolapalooza with Lola Fierce'.
