A special concert celebrating 40 years of Fèis Rois, bringing together generations of musicians and singers as part of Celtic Connections 2027.
Fèis Rois are celebrating their 40th anniversary at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 16 January 2027, as part of Celtic Connections. It's a big one: almost 100 musicians and singers on stage at once, with former Fèis Rois participant Innes White taking the musical direction. The core of the night is a 40-piece house band made up of former Fèis Rois participants, including Rachel Walker, Graham Mackenzie, Lauren MacColl, Corrina Dawn, Rory Matheson, Mischa Macpherson, Rachel Hair, Conal McDonagh and Mairearad Green. They'll be joined by special guests and performances from the Ceilidh Trail, the Kiltearn Fiddlers and Cluich Rois.
To get why this matters, it helps to know where Fèis Rois started. They began in 1986 with just 50 attendees and have since grown into a nationally recognised leader in traditional music and Gaelic arts education, working with more than 5,000 children, young people and adult learners every year. The concert marks four decades of their music, Gaelic culture, community and creativity, and brings together generations of musicians who have come through their programmes over the years. It's a family reunion on a grand scale, with the people who once learned there returning to the stage.
The night is part of Celtic Connections 2027 and takes place at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, one of Scotland's most prestigious venues, known for its curved stone exterior and an acoustically excellent auditorium that hosts nearly 250 performances a year across classical, jazz, pop, rock and folk, and serves as the home of the RSNO, Scotland's national orchestra. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
