Face The West bring their explosive blend of tradition and innovation to Celtic Connections, fusing Hebridean roots with festival dancefloor energy.
Face The West and Emma Scalpay play Òran Mór on Saturday 23 January, part of the Celtic Connections programme. It's a double bill that puts the Hebridean roots of the main act front and centre, with the set built around their new album Teine.
Face The West describe their sound as a blend of tradition and innovation, and the description tells you exactly where the tension lies. On one side is the Hebridean tradition they grew up with — the fiddle and accordion melodies that lead the way. On the other is the energy of a festival dancefloor: pounding beats, bold guitars, and electrifying synth lines. They talk about balancing the communal spirit of a ceilidh with the momentum of an electronic music set, and the live show follows that same line, shifting between powerful instrumental passages and infectious grooves. It's a Hebridean foundation pushed into new sonic territory.
That Outer Hebrides connection is where the band comes from, and it's what they draw on for their repertoire. The set will feature material from Teine, their latest record, so you'll be hearing the new songs as they're meant to be heard — live and in the room. Emma Scalpay shares the bill, and together they'll be playing at Òran Mór on Byres Road in the West End (G12 8QX).
