Japanese synth metal band Esprit D'Air, led by Kai of The Sisters of Mercy, play Ivory Blacks in Glasgow.
Esprit D'Air bring a headline tour night to Ivory Blacks on Wednesday 10 February 2027. They're a Japanese synth metal band fronted by Kai, who's currently playing guitar for The Sisters of Mercy. The rest of the line-up brings in Jan-Vincent Velazco, formerly of Ghost, on drums, with Takeshi on bass and Yusuke on guitar.
They've been around for a while now. Their debut album, Constellations, came out in 2017 and picked up 'Best Metal Album' at the Independent Music Awards, with a jury that included Slayer, Sepultura and Amy Lee of Evanescence. Their second record, Oceans, followed in 2022 and hit #8 in the Top 40 Rock and Metal Albums and #5 in Album Downloads. The Special Edition of that one features guest spots from Ben Christo of The Sisters of Mercy and Ryo Kinoshita of Crystal Lake.
More recently, they put out a cover of Iron Maiden's 'The Trooper' in late 2023, recorded with ex-Judas Priest vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens, and spent the end of that year on a sold-out 22-date European tour. Sound-wise, they pull from nu metal, djent, power metal and electronicore, so it's a fair mix of heavy riffs and synth work.
