Weekly free hands-on family sessions with crafts, music and object handling at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Discover is back at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Saturday afternoons, running from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. It's a hands-on family activity that lets you get to know the museum's collection by making and creating or by handling and discussing objects. The sessions are part of Glasgow Museums, and they're free, drop-in, and need no booking.
Depending on the day, the focus shifts between the two sides of the title. Some sessions are about making and creating, where you'll be crafting something inspired by what's on display. Others are about handling and discussing objects, where you can get up close with pieces from the collection and talk about them. It's a family thing, so it's designed for you to work through it with your kids rather than just watching from the sidelines. The sessions run every Saturday from 29 November 2025 to 19 December 2026, though there are a few gaps in the calendar: it's cancelled on 10 October, 24 October, 7 November, 21 November and 5 December.
Because it's a drop-in, there's no need to book ahead. When you arrive at Kelvingrove, just ask any staff member where the session is and they'll point you in the right direction. One thing to keep in mind is that a parent has to stay with their children for the duration. It's free, so it's an easy way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the West End without having to plan too far in advance.
