Dexys Midnight Runners, led by Kevin Rowland, launch their 2026 UK and Ireland tour at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Dexys Midnight Runners are back at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday 20 October, and it's the first stop of their 2026 tour of the UK and Ireland. It's a bit of a milestone: this is the first time they've toured under the name Dexys Midnight Runners since 2003, when they played a sold-out show at London's Southbank Centre.
For anyone who knows the name but isn't sure where to start, the band formed in Birmingham in 1978 and made their mark with a blend of soul, folk and new wave energy. They put out three critically and commercially successful albums in their early run: Searching For The Young Soul Rebels (1980), Too-Rye-Ay (1982) and Don't Stand Me Down (1985). That period produced a string of top-ten hits in the eighties, including the number ones 'Geno' and 'Come on Eileen' — the latter a global smash that shows their knack for mixing heartfelt storytelling with hooks that stick.
Kevin Rowland has continued to release albums under the Dexys name since then, with the 2012 comeback One Day I'm Going To Soar and 2023's The Feminine Divine, and he recently published his memoir Bless Me Father. This tour is the first time the band has hit the road as Dexys Midnight Runners in over two decades, so the Glasgow date is the tour opener.
