A screening of the silent horror classic Nosferatu accompanied by a hypnotic live score from Circuit des Yeux and Alan Sparhawk of Low.
Circuit des Yeux is bringing a live score to Nosferatu at Cottiers on Tuesday 3 November, with Alan Sparhawk of Low joining her on stage. It's a screening of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent horror classic, so the music is played live in the room rather than coming from the soundtrack.
Nosferatu is horror cinema's foundational text: an expressionist, unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula that stars Max Schreck as the rat-like Count Orlok. More than a century after the novel, it remains the definitive screen Dracula. The screening pairs the silent film with an original, hypnotic live score by Circuit des Yeux, the acclaimed experimental artist whose recent albums have landed on best-of-year lists from The Wire and NPR. Her Matador Records release Halo on the Inside drew praise from Pitchfork and The New York Times, and Bandcamp Daily called her "an artist who feels increasingly, thrillingly peerless".
