Amsterdam indie-pop duo Ciao Lucifer headline McChuills with catchy choruses and a raw, energetic sound.
Ciao Lucifer play McChuills Bar on Tuesday 9 March, their Glasgow date coming from Amsterdam. They're an indie-pop duo, and the live set pairs catchy choruses and sharp lyrics with a raw, energetic sound and clever takes on life and the state of the world.
It's a good description of how they work: the pop side is in the choruses, the raw energy in the delivery, and the sharp lyrics in the songwriting. The two halves don't really compete, so you get the melodies and the edge in the same songs. If you're into indie-pop that doesn't polish away the rougher bits, this is exactly that.
They're playing at McChuills Bar, 80 High Street, in the city centre. It's a proper Glasgow institution and a community hub right in the heart of things. Over the last few decades it's been more than a pub: a place where live music wasn't just a way to bring in punters, but where bands and musicians were valued and given a platform. You didn't have to pay to play or fit in with what was popular at the time, and you were looked after and asked back even if you weren't packing them in. It's that kind of place that keeps the city's live scene going.
