A pop-up choir experience where participants learn to sing pop classics in harmony in a candlelit space, with no prior singing experience needed.
Choir Party comes to Cottiers on Wednesday 4 November, a one-night-only pop-up choir run by Seed Talks. The premise is straightforward: you turn up, learn a couple of pop classics in harmony, and sing them with a room full of strangers, all in one evening. There's no preparation needed and no prior singing experience required, so it's open to anyone who fancies it.
The organisers describe it as '800 candles, 300 people, a couple of pop classics, one amazing night', and they're clear about who it's for: people who haven't sung since primary school, shower singers, and festival-goers. The whole thing happens in a candlelit space, and you're taught the harmonies on the night, so you don't need to be able to read music or have a choir background to take part.
Beyond the novelty, they talk about the healing side of singing together, citing cortisol, serotonin and oxytocin as the reasons why it does you good. One reviewer described the result as 'spine-tingling stuff'. If you want to see more of what they do, they're on Instagram at @choirparty.
