A string quartet performs beloved romantic songs from Disney films in a candlelit setting at the historic Merchants House of Glasgow.
Candlelight: Disney Love Songs comes to The Merchants House of Glasgow on Friday 23 October, with a string quartet playing a programme of Disney love songs licensed by Disney Concerts. The set pulls from the studio's history, stretching from the early days through to more recent films: 'Some Day My Prince Will Come' from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and 'Bella Notte' from Lady and the Tramp (1955) sit alongside 'Kiss the Girl' from The Little Mermaid (1989), 'Beauty and the Beast' (1991), 'Remember Me' from Coco (2017) and the Spanish 'Dos Oruguitas' from Encanto (2021). It's a live string quartet performing these songs in a candlelit room, so the whole thing is built around that particular mood.
The venue is the Grand Hall at The Merchants House of Glasgow, 7 West George Street, a historic city-centre spot with a capacity of around 200. It's housed in a Victorian building by architect John Burnet that opened in 1874 and still shows off its ornate ceilings, stained-glass windows and a sweeping marble staircase. The show is recommended for ages five and over, and there's no strict dress code, though guests can go for something elegant or Disney-inspired if they fancy it.
