Canadian hardcore punk veterans Cancer Bats return on Marshall's Made Of Loud tour with guests Ignite and Knives.
Cancer Bats are back at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut on Wednesday 28 October, their first Glasgow date in a while. They're touring the new record, Psychic Jailbreak, which arrived to rave reviews, and the set will lean on it without dropping the older stuff. They're not alone on the bill, either: Ignite and Knives are both on as support, so there's plenty to hear before the main act takes the stage.
For those who haven't kept up, Cancer Bats formed in Toronto in 2004 and have spent more than two decades building a reputation as one of the most resilient, fiercely DIY forces in heavy music. Their sound melds the speed of hardcore punk with the sludge of southern rock and metal, and they've kept that mix going across seven studio albums. Along the way they've picked up six JUNO Award nominations, with Kerrang!, Exclaim!, Revolver and Rock Sound following their career. There's a bit of a joke in their history too: they've toured Canada as a Black Sabbath cover act under the moniker Bat Sabbath.
The current line-up is Liam Cormier on vocals, Jaye Schwarzer on bass, Scott Middleton on guitar and Mike Peters on drums. The Glasgow date is presented by DF Concerts as part of Marshall's inaugural Made Of Loud tour, so it's one of the first stops on a run that's just getting underway. If you've followed them since the early days, Psychic Jailbreak is the latest chapter; if you're coming to them fresh, it's a good place to start.
