Music workshops for young people aged 11-16 to learn and play favourite songs as a fully-fledged indie/rock-style band at Music Broth.
Build-A-Band is running a series of music workshops for 11 to 16-year-olds at Music Broth in the West End, with sessions on 20 October, 27 October and 3 November, each from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. The idea is simple: young people gather each week to learn and play favourite songs as a full indie/rock-style band. It's open to anyone keen to play drums, bass guitar, guitar, keys, vocals or anything else, whether they've already got some skills or are just starting to learn the basics. And if the group is feeling it, they can even write their own songs.
The workshops are run by Music Broth, a Glasgow social enterprise co-founded in 2017. At the time, there were no other instrument libraries in the UK and very few in the world, and their Finnieston site now holds over 4,000 donated instruments. They run workshops and jam sessions for all ages, including build-a-band sessions for adults learning or re-learning to play, alongside pop-ups across Scotland. The whole project works on the circular economy, repairing and reusing instruments to keep them out of landfill.
