Weekly music workshops for young people aged 11-16 to learn and play favourite songs as a fully-fledged indie/rock band.
Build-A-Band starts up at Music Broth on Tuesday 13 October, and it's not just a one-off — it runs every Tuesday for six weeks, through 20 and 27 October, then 3, 10 and 17 November. Each session is from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, so it's an hour after school on a weekday evening.
The whole thing is for young people aged 11 to 16, and the idea is pretty straightforward: you get together and learn to play your favourite songs as a proper indie/rock-style band. It's open to anyone keen to play drums, bass guitar, guitar, keys, vocals or anything else that fits into a band setup. You don't need to be an experienced player to join in, either — it works whether you've already got some skills or you're just keen to learn the basics from scratch. And if the group gets into it, they might even start writing their own songs as they go.
Because it's a weekly thing, you're not just turning up for a single session; you're part of a group that builds on the same songs over the course of the six weeks. It's a good way to get a feel for how a band actually works, from the first few chords to playing through a whole song together.
