A cult comedy show where award-winning compère Jay Lafferty invites Scotland's finest comics to perform material written for the night's theme.
Bona Fide returns to The Stand Comedy Club on Thursday 29 October, and it's a bit of a milestone this time around: the show is turning ten. If you've never come across it, it's one of the club's cult favourites, and the format is what sets it apart from your usual stand-up night. The award-winning compère Jay Lafferty picks a selection of Scotland's comics and gives them a specific theme for the night. Every act on the bill has to write their set around it, so what you hear is material written specifically for that one show.
Because the line-up and the theme change every month, each night is a one-off. You won't hear the same set twice, and once the night is over, that particular combination of comics and theme is gone. It's a good reason to keep coming back, as the whole thing resets every time. The club is marking the tenth anniversary with a full year of line-ups, special mystery guests, prizes and parties, so this is one of many dates they're running to celebrate.
Over the years, the show has pulled in some big names from the Scottish scene. Regular guests have included Susie McCabe, Danny Bhoy, Daniel Sloss, Krystal Evans, MC Hammersmith, Christopher MacArthur Boyd, Marjoleine Robertson and Rosco McClelland. It also runs monthly at The Stand's Edinburgh venue, so it's a bit of a cross-city fixture.
