London gothic post-punk trio Black Doldrums headline The Old Hairdressers as part of their Repetition Compulsion tour.
Black Doldrums bring their Repetition Compulsion tour to The Old Hairdressers on Friday 5 March, with the set starting at 7:30pm. They're a London gothic post-punk trio formed in 2016 by Kevin Gibbard on vocals and guitar and Sophie Landers on drums, with Daniel Armstrong on bass. Signed to Fuzz Club Records, they spent their early years building an underground following through EPs like Sad Paradise and She Divine before releasing their critically acclaimed debut album, Dead Awake, in 2022.
Their second album, In Limerence (2024), pushed the sound further, adding atmospheric synth lines, driving motorik rhythms and expansive guitar textures to the mix. The critics have had different ways of pinning it down: Rolling Stone called it a blend of gothic rock and shoegaze; Uncut described it as a fierce combination of post-punk, reverb, drone and melody; shindig! went with youthful, ambitious contemporary rock 'n' roll. Live, the band is known for vicious drums, atmospheric guitar chords and melodic bass.
