Adaptation of The Borrowers shown in IMAX at Glasgow Science Centre, with the choice of original Japanese or English dubbed version.
Arrietty comes to the IMAX Theatre at Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 15 October, and it's not just a one-off – it runs through to Sunday 18 October, so there are a few dates to choose from if that first night doesn't suit. It's an animated adaptation of The Borrowers, one of those children's books almost everyone grew up with, and it's being shown on Scotland's biggest screen.
The story is the one you'll remember: a secret world of tiny people living hidden beneath the floorboards, out of sight of the humans around them. Things change when the brave Arrietty is discovered by a human boy called Shawn, and the two form a friendship that turns into a heartwarming adventure. It's directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, from the same studio that gave us Spirited Away and Ponyo, so it's got that same Studio Ghibli touch.
One of the best bits is that you get a choice of how to watch it. You can go for the original Japanese version with English subtitles, or the English dubbed version, which features Saoirse Ronan, Tom Holland, Mark Strong and Olivia Colman. If you're taking the kids, the dubbed one is usually the easier shout, but the original is there if you prefer it.

As for the venue, the IMAX is part of the Glasgow Science Centre on the banks of the Clyde, which is one of the city's big visitor attractions. It's home to interactive exhibits, a planetarium and live science shows, and it's right next to the Glasgow Tower – that 127-metre structure that's the only fully rotating building in the world. If you've got a bit of extra time, it's an easy enough spot to spend a whole afternoon around.
The screening on Thursday 15 October runs from 6:45 PM to 9:15 PM. Tickets are £12.15 for adults, £9.35 per child and £10.75 for concessions, with a £1 transaction fee on all bookings. Since it runs until Sunday 18 October, you've got a few days to fit it in.
