A stand-up comedy show by Merrick Watts that blends laughter, learning and wine, pairing comedy with six different wine varietals.
Merrick Watts brings An Idiot's Guide to Wine to Barras Art and Design Centre on Thursday 15 October, and it's a bit of a first for the city. The show is a stand-up set paired with six different wine varietals from around the globe, so you're drinking as you go. It's billed as a blend of laughter, learning and liquid courage, and it's the first time the show has been performed outside Australia or New Zealand.
Watts is one of Australia's best-known comedians, and he's the only one in the world to hold a WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) level 3 qualification, which is where the learning side of the night comes from. He's not just talking about wine; he's actually qualified in it, so the whole thing is built on a genuine knowledge of the stuff rather than just a few anecdotes. The six wines are the thread the set runs on, with the stand-up woven around them.
