The Glasgow Island Associations come together for one night to showcase talent from across the Highlands and Islands, recreating the meeting of Highland and islanders under the Hielan' Man's Umbrella.
An Drochaid comes to The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday 13 October, bringing together the Glasgow Island Associations for one night. The title is a nod to the Hielan' Man's Umbrella, and the evening is built around that same idea: Highland and islanders gathering under one roof. The bill showcases singers and musicians representing their respective islands and areas, described as a cornucopia of some of Gaeldom's foremost singers.
Mary Ann Kennedy leads the night, backed by a house band of Alastair Iain Paterson, Anna Murray, Andrew MacPherson, Ciorstaidh Beaton, Hannah Fisher, Finlay Wells and Megan MacDonald. The supporting singers are a long list, with Seona Brown, Margaret Callan, Mairi Callan, Emma Clark, Arthur Cormack, Alasdair Currie, Rachel Deans, Ryan Johnston, Cailean Jennett, Wilma Kennedy, Maeve MacDonald, Frankie MacDonald, Sineag MacIntyre, Iain 'Costello' MacIver, Maeve MacKinnon, Darren MacLean, Claire MacLeod, Emma MacLeod, Calum Ailig MacMillan, Carrie MacNeil, Iseabail MacTaggart, Deirdre MacTaggart, Seumas MacTaggart, Jenny MacTaggart, Anna MacTaggart, Margaret Stewart, Riona Whyte and Alasdair Whyte. It's a broad cross-section of voices from across the Highlands and Islands, each singing for their own place.
