A collaborative musical project featuring Rachel Sermanni, The Maes, Kris Drever, Cahalen Morrison, Trent Freeman and Duncan Lyall, presenting new pieces and reimaginings of their existing work.
Rachel Sermanni, The Maes, Kris Drever, Cahalen Morrison, Trent Freeman and Duncan Lyall play the Citizens Theatre on Saturday 30 January, their first show together after a five-day residency during Celtic Connections. The set is the result of that week: they spent it writing new collaborative pieces and reimagining their existing work, so you'll hear things they've written together as well as songs they've each brought from their own catalogues.
It's a broad mix of voices. Rachel Sermanni brings dreamy indie-folk pop; The Maes are Australian sisters playing modern folk with lush harmonies and acoustic mastery on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo. Kris Drever is an award-winning Scottish folk singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer, and his album Doing This For Love looks at the unglamorous side of love. Cahalen Morrison, from Northern New Mexico, is known for his singular turn of phrase and poignant songs. Trent Freeman is a fiery fiddle player best known from The Fretless, and Scottish bassist and producer Duncan Lyall — also of the GRIT orchestra, Croft No. Five and Kate Rusby's band — helps pull it all together.
