Manchester indie-psyche outfit Afflecks Palace bring 90s-inspired psych-pop to King Tut's, strictly for over-18s.
Afflecks Palace play King Tut's Wah Wah Hut on Thursday 25 February, bringing their psych-pop sound from Manchester to Glasgow. They're a four-piece indie outfit formed in 2019, and they've taken their name from the city's famous vintage market.
If you're not familiar with them, they're often linked to a modern revival of the 90s 'Madchester' sound — a niche they've dubbed 'Nu Madchester' and whose spirit they say they're channeling. The influences are right there in the open: The Stone Roses, The La's and The Durutti Column, all bands that helped shape that particular era of Northern indie. You can hear it in tracks like 'Pink Skies' and 'Ripley Jean'.
They release their music independently through the Spirit Of Spike Island record label, and they've built a following around sold-out, limited-edition vinyl releases. That's probably why they've caught the ear of BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio X, too.
