Join metalworker Bryony Knox to make your own Glasgow Style-inspired embossed copper box at Mackintosh, with a guided tour and lunch included.
Bryony Knox is running an adult art workshop at The Mackintosh Tearooms on Saturday 14 November, from 10.30am to 4pm. The session is all about making your own embossed copper box, worked in the Glasgow Style.
It's part of The Glasgow Style: Saturday Art Workshops for Adults, a series of sessions at the Tearooms that teach the techniques associated with the city's most famous design movement. The workshops also open up the stories of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, his wife Margaret Macdonald and their patron, the Edwardian businesswoman Kate Cranston. Each day starts with a guided tour of the building before the hands-on making session, so you get to see the work in context before you start on your own.
The venue itself is the A-listed Willow Tea Rooms building at 217 Sauchiehall Street, which first opened in 1903 and is described as the only remaining Mackintosh-designed tea room in the world. It was bought in 2014 by The Willow Tea Rooms Trust to prevent its forced sale, and has since been undergoing an extensive restoration. It now runs as a social enterprise creating training, learning and employment opportunities for young people and communities, with many of the staff being young trainees.
