A festive ABBA tribute show with a live band and holiday classics at The Pavilion Theatre.
ABBA-Merry Christmas comes to The Pavilion Theatre on Saturday 14 November, with the show starting at 7.30pm. It's a festive party built around the audience's favourite ABBA hits, with 'Waterloo', 'Thank You For The Music' and 'S.O.S.' among them, a handful of holiday classics thrown in and plenty of 'Dancing Queen' moments. The whole thing is delivered by an ABBA tribute and a live band, with sparkling lights and a sing-along atmosphere.
The tribute is fronted by the stars of the musical Thank You For The Music, backed by a live band rather than a track. The setlist leans on the ABBA hits you know, but it's the holiday classics mixed in that give it the Christmas theme. It's a sing-along night, so it's more of a party than a sit-down concert.
The Pavilion Theatre is one of Glasgow's oldest variety theatres, first built in 1904 as a music hall. Over the years it's staged variety shows, pantomimes, dramas, comedies and concerts, and hosted names like Laurel and Hardy, Judy Garland and Morecambe and Wise. It still has its Edwardian-style façade, a grand entrance foyer with a marble staircase and stained-glass windows, and an auditorium with ornate plasterwork and a proscenium-arch stage, seating around 1,450. It's a big room, so there's plenty of space for a sing-along crowd.
