Beginner-friendly workshop led by illustrator Steph Brown to make a zine from scratch, with all materials included.
Lounge 33 in Leith is hosting a zine-making workshop on Sunday 6 December, from 2 pm to 4 pm. It's led by illustrator and educator Steph Brown, working under her Coomo Art practice.
If you've never come across them, zines — short for magazines — are small, self-published booklets that pull together art, writing, collage and storytelling. They're a way of putting your own work out there without needing a publisher or a big budget. This workshop treats them as a medium for experimentation and self-expression, and the whole point is that there are no rules or limitations to follow. You'll make your own zine from scratch, working through self-publishing, illustration and creative expression in a relaxed, beginner-friendly session. It's as much about the process of making as it is about the finished booklet.
Steph Brown runs the session under her Coomo Art practice, and as an illustrator and educator, she's well-placed to guide you through the more practical side of things — how to put a zine together and how to think about it as a way of sharing your work. It's a two-hour session, so you'll have a decent stretch of time to get stuck in and leave with something you've actually finished.
